Summer means Lobster and Prosecco, and as much of it as your wallet can stretch to. Smack Lobster is one of the newer restaurants from the Goodman Group – the guys who can’t seem to do anything wrong in ‘restauranting’ (aside from being the front runners in driving the extinction of Lobster with their growing chains). Aside from that, I just ADORE every one of their creations, including Burger & Lobster, Rex & Mariano and Beast Restaurant.
At Smack Lobster, they’re managing to serve up sublime chunks of lobster in fluffy rolls with funky recipes packed with deliciousness, all for little more than a double whopper meal at McDonalds.
I visited last week for an early dinner. It was only a two minute walk from Selfridges where I was shopping for my new summer wardrobe….HA! As if… I was in Primark – where I feel RICH). Smack Lobster is a no-bookings two-floored dimly lit fast food restaurant where the main objective is to churn out roll after roll of happiness – and they really do.
Here’s how it works:
- Walk in
- Grab drinks from the fridge (where you’ll find rows of litre bottles of prosecco for £19 – SOLD, one each please).
- Order from a choice of 5 rolls, 4 salads, 2 sides or chowder, at the buzzing counter.
- Take a seat downstairs near the bar, it’s so dark and spacious down there, feels like a hide out bunker.
- Wait for your buzzer to ping.
- Collect your tray.
- Tuck in. Do not fall foul to feelings of guilt.
The three of us chose to share “The Mexican” (spicy and rich), “The California” (refreshing) and “The Seven Samurai” (exotic) and a heap of Courgette Fries – my guilty pleasure.
….And 3 litres of prosecco. We had a lot to catch up on.
So, my advice, get on down to Smack Lobster next time you’re in W1. It may be holiday season, but why would you care for a beach body when you can eat lobster rolls every day!
