Charismatic, eloquent and sophisticated are the three words that describe 108 Brasserie, a fitting description for W1’s celebrity-doused Marylebone. When I think of brunch in London, my mind is flooded with ‘artisan’, ‘innovative’, ‘kitchenette’ themed restaurants, you know the ones; Caravan, Breakfast Club and the Modern Pantry. They’re all brilliant restaurants but, last week, I fancied a classier affair. 108 Brasserie awaited!
Last weekend, I was invited for brunch by a fantastic new web platform called ‘Best of the brunch’. If you love brunch, you have to get this website in your life. It features top London hotspots with exclusive deals, top picks, and numbers categories from ‘bottomless’ to ‘gluten free’ to ‘with a view’.
The weekend started perfectly for me. Champagne, fresh eggs, a shot of freshly ground coffee, cheesecake and, best of all, a team of charming waistcoat-wearing waiters.
My friend Ania and I sat down on a red leather sofa at a dark oak dining table in the smart, mirrored dining room to hear about 108’s signature Guinness bread, which turned out to be deliciously sweet. While we were sitting in the brasserie, there is also a sleek cocktail bar, and a very British Pantry room filled with homemade cakes and pastries. 108’s Irish heritage certainly gives it a charming aura, and you’ll notice Guinness popping up regularly on the menu.
There’s a dish for everyone on the brunch menu, from the uber-healthy superfood egg white omelette for the #LFW goers to rib eye steak for the boys and buttermilk blueberry pancakes for the traditional bruncher. Our eggs royal and superfood omelette with avo on the side were exactly what we needed, simple and delicious, they hit the spot.
If you can resist the twinkle in the waiter’s eye when he offers you a dessert, I applaud you! We “crumbled”… ! We couldn’t resist the stoplight dishes of the day; a gooey chocolate and Guinness cake and a freshly prepared vanilla cheesecake. It turned out that 108 are extremely talented bakers. In fact, they specialise in high teas, every afternoon they’re full, putting a bright and beautiful spread of home made deliciousness.
