Frenchie, Covent Garden

Thank you Gregory Marchand for breaking away from your adored Parisian restaurants and throwing your talents into a new London venture; the just opened Frenchie on Henrietta Street.

From fine food to faultless wines and award winning bar skills to the dressed down waiters, decor and cutlery, Frenchie is a damn good looking place. What is wonderful is experiencing proper French food without the snootiness of French service. The staff are characterful, fun, extremely knowledgeable yet hugely laid back. A huge asset to ‘Frenchie’ aka Mr Marchand himself.

I was lucky enough to squeeze onto a table last week, placed next to the kitchen where I could enjoy watching Gregory and his team in action all evening. We chose from a selection of sharing plates to start, followed by the chef menu at a reasonable £55. Each plate was very special, each bite as intriguing as the last, Frenchie was a delight from start to finish. If only I could remember the exact components of each dish…

Great name.

Monsieur Marchand’s motto in the Paris restaurant is ‘to share and have a good time’ – that we did Gregory, that we did. I will be back.
